Bewts-y-Coed 21-Mar-2008 - 23-Mar-2008
Riders - Al, Mark, Mick

A trip down the legendary Marin Trail and Penmachno Trails was in order and after managing to get a Bed and Breakfast Booked in Bewts-Y-Coed the team set off for a weekend of plenty of off-road fun. The weather was not great however with snow on the Sunday and heavy winds, but there is not much that will put us off.
Marin Trail -

      

We found this to be a excelent entry level Off road track with the best saved for the last few sections of descent. There is plenty of hill climbing (mainly on fire trails) dotted with fast sections of singletrack. The trail starts off with a killer climb up to the top of summit and the loop circut measued just over 15 miles. The last 2 sections are excelent with fast downhill singletrack with nice meduim sized roller bumps on the lower sections of the track.
Penmachno Trails -

      

Based just out of Bewts-y-coed the Penmachno Trail is a more modern approach to trail building with excelent long sections of singletrack. The trails (found just outside the village) start with a killer hill climb on fire road but soon open out to fast rolling singletrack. The track offers a Loop 1 /2 options halfway round with a total distance of around 30km. We took Loop 1 (mainly because of the poor weather conditions on the Sunday). As with the Marin Trail the best sections were at the end of the trail with a excelent fast flowing descent from the tops. More like our native Dalby the Penmachno trails were tight in sections and could be technical to the point of catching you out. The conditions however were poor and would love to revisit the trail on a dry summers day.

Betws-y-Coed Trails/Dirt Jumps
 

We wanted Dirt Jumps and we found them up the road, this project was still under construction but a awesome Dirt Jump set made from local materials.

We have riders all over the UK and this photo was sent in by Gaz and the team from Cannock Chase,  They have a old quarry which has some serious drops , This one is around the 20t mark and as the picture shows its real do or die stuff. The next guy who jumped off this broke his frameset !!
