Quality Cycles Online - Shimano Equpped

Shimano Gears Equipped 

All our Cycles are Shimano Equipped with a Full Shimano Gear System - including Deraulier, Freewheel and the majority using Shimano Shifter Units or a simular grade. This is integral to having a working, reliable gear system, Many manufacters scrimp on these parts with either cheaper freewheels, deraliuers or twistgrip units which are totally incompatable and with never work properly.

Sealed Bottom Bracket

Check if the cycle comes with a sealed cartridge bottom bracket which uses sealed roller type bearings for a superior life and better reliabilty. The majority of cycle problems are due to the bottom brackets as this is the main part of the bike that takes a battering when you pedal and standard servicable types generally need adjusting within 1 year. This sealed unit has a average shelf life of anything between 2-5 yrs depending on useageand often last longer than this if you are a light user.

Alloy V-Brake Units
Check if the bike comes with Alloy V-Brake units and levers, This gives a better feel to the brake over the resin levers and units as well as lasting longer -all our Falcon and Claud Butler Childrens ranges come with these and its a great idea for kids that throw their bike on the floor.

Disc Brakes
Check if the cycle comes with Disc Brakes, These tend to be better for use off road and offer a specific brake surface in the centre of the hub - rotor , for the caliper unit to brake on, Great if you damage your wheel as they will let you ride home. Cycle Disc brakes come in two forms - Hydraulic and Cable, The Cable units on power-wise are about the same as V-brake units, The Hydraulic units however tend to be more powerfull and dont suffer from cable stretch - something which all cable brakes suffer from.

Double Walled Wheels

Check if the cycle is equipped with double walled rims which offer just over half the strength of a standard rim when built up into a cycle wheel these are a good choice if you plan to use the cycle off road a lot or for more serious cross country or downhill riding. The double walled rim has a beefed up central section which both stiffins the rim as well as offering laterial support.

Intergrated Headset

Check if this cycle has a intergrated headset, This is when the bearings in the headset(front of the bike) are built into the frameset. This both keeps the front end of the cycle down as well as keeping the bearings hidden inside the cycle frame for longer life expectancy / service intervals.
